Bligny sur Ouche

Nestled in lush greenery near the Ouche Valley, the village of Bligny is crossed by the course of the river "Ouche" and surrounded by old mills and washing places.

Away from pollution and large summer concentrations, a range of outdoor activities await you :

Bligny sur Ouche is also a former borough (written records dating from the year 879) who once had a castle (demolished in 1478 by order of Louis XI, rebuilt in 1485 and destroyed in 1855), evidenced by its former thirteenth century chapel (now the church of today) and old houses. In 1850, there were 80 hemp weavers, making Bligny a well known craft center for the fineness of its work.

  • The church of Saint-Germain-d'Auxerre, thirteenth century tower with a pyramidal fifteenth century limestone tuff.
  • The Hemp Museum (in a building of the fifteenth century).
  • The Museum of woodworking and peasant life.
  • Old washing-places, wells and mills.
  • Old houses (especially rue de l'église).
  • The "Domanial Forest".
  • In early July: Exhibition of exotic butterflies.
  • The wednesday market.

The Ouche Valley

Spanning over Lusigny-sur-Ouche to Dijon, this green valley that is sometimes called "little Switzerland", will seduce you with its charm and relaxing scenery.

Crossed in part by the Burgundy Canal, you can admire the riverboats and also enjoy the bicycle path along the canal for a ride.

The nature lovers will be delighted by this bucolic scenery and various outdoor activities available, such as horseback riding, fishing or kayaking.

Beaune

On the "Route des Grands Crus" and surrounded by many villages with famous worldwide names for their great wines such as Pommard, Savigny-les-Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet or Nuits-Saint-Georges, Beaune is the wine capital of Burgundy.

Protected by its battlements, it is classified  as  a city of art and history and has a rich historical heritage.

A large number of monuments are to visit and various cultural events are held throughout the year especially the sale of the "Hospices de Beaune" wines (3rd Sunday in November) and the International Festival of detective films (in April).

In this charming medieval city, you can stroll around the cobbled streets and half-timbered houses, visit the wine cellars and the covered market (on wednesday & saturday) or enjoy the various delicacies and specialties such as Burgundy mustard, ham parsley, Crémant de Bourgogne (sparkling wine), cassis (blackcurrant liquor) or gingerbread.

  • The Hospices of Beaune (Hôtel-Dieu) : former medieval hospital founded in 1443 by Chancellor Nicolas Rolin and his wife Guigone de Salins.
  • The wine Museum located in the hotel of the Dukes of Burgundy.
  • The wine market located in the old church of the Cordeliers.
  • The Mustard factory Fallot.
  • The Museum of Fine Arts.
  • The Park of "la Bouzaize".
  • Many wine growers will let you visit the vineyards and wine cellars, and have wine tastings.
